There are not many things in life that really irritate me but people who shamelessly park in disabled parking bays who are not disabled is definitely something that irritates me the most.
It’s not about a parking space it’s about considering the lives of people around you. Disabled life is about having to adapt, and getting in and out of a car is one of the hardest things to do (especially in the rain) it might be a case that you need to be closer to the entrance or like me you need the space to get out into a wheelchair. If someone parks in that space it means that some one who needs it and does not have any other choice is left without and is unable to do anything about it.
I have heard plenty of excuses over time and I still can’t see any justification in them.
“I was only 5 minutes!”
So you only just popped in well you didn’t leave a note on the car so the person who drove in the the carpark didn’t know he could wait for your inconsiderate self so they left as they couldn’t park.
“I have children!”
Well are they disabled if not then unfortunately the space is not designed for you but if you look there is usually an end space or even in most cases toddler parking use that.
“There was not any spaces close by”
this is one of my favourites!!!
Make the most of the ability to walk that is all.
My all time favourites, and this was at my local gym
“It’s a Friday”
that’s it that was his excuse “it’s a Friday” my response was as simple “I am disabled every day”
The world is not an easy place we all have things to do and places to go but by taking a disabled space when you really don’t need to means you are knowingly causing someone inconvenience and that is just not fair. We don’t ask for much just for a little understanding and a bit of consideration so we can carry on with our lives utilising a few facilities that are there to help us and offer us the independence we need.
Don’t take that away from us by parking like a tool…
