I want to tell everyone a story. Its all about a group of people from around the country that between them displayed acts of human kindness, selfless generosity and put fears aside to show guts and determination.
I have just had another fantastic opportunity to enjoy a day with “The Bike Experience” now every time I get on a bike I am genuinely terrified the thought of getting strapped to a motorcycle and being launched off on a machine that if it decides to bite back takes no prisoners, this for me is completely mind blowing.
Today I sat at the side of the track after my first few times around watching and I realised that what I was witnessing was something amazing
Here was a wheelchair user who has been disabled for 15 years he gets on a bike for the first time and after a bit of work and taking it step by step he took on the challenge and got on a bike. There was the joy of seeing him ride around the track but nothing could write his smile at the end. I also sat back and watched someone who was paralysed after a motorcycle accident put her fears aside and get back onto a bike. After a steady start she soon got the swing of it and was off on her own enjoying something she thought she had lost forever.
I remember sitting there feeling a real sense of respect for her as it took real guts to face a bike again and even though I like to think I could do it I really don’t know if I could.
I also took the time to watch the volunteers, amazing men and women who selflessly give up their day, travel in some cases 100’s of miles to offer their services as catches and launches with the goal of keeping us safe and helping us enjoy the freedom of a motorcycle, these people ask for nothing in return and on more than one occasion have said they get as much out of this experience as the riders.
Every one gains something different for me it is more than just an experience it’s the feeling of achievement the idea that I can do what is thought impossible and it all helps to keep my spirit alive, you can’t put a price on spirit.
For me each and everyone one of the people in this photo is a true credit to themselves but demonstrate the real meaning of decency and humanity.. I am just proud to have been apart of it…
