“You’re free to do it your way”
My life changed when I realised this one simple truth. There and then, in the
middle of a coaching session, I gave myself permission to set my own agenda.
You see, until that moment, I’d spent my whole life as a “follower”. Even in a
position of authority, as a GP. Even in a leadership role, as Medical Director for
a local NHS Health Trust. I was always working to strict regimes, always
feeling stuck…never able to be who I truly wanted to be. And not just in work.
I’d lost control of my home life too. I’d had two children soon after qualifying,
and moved to an area with no support network around me. And I went along
with it for years, allowing others to dictate the course of my life. I was really
stuck.
So realising that I could break free was a landmark moment. My whole life fell
into place, as I found the confidence and clarity of purpose to chart a new
course.
I took early retirement from medicine, threw myself into NLP and started my
new life as a coach. Finally feeling “at one” with the world – because now I was
helping others to get unstuck, and discover what I’d discovered: The value of
personal freedom.
