When was the last time you laughed? I mean really laughed, like when you were a child?
Laughter Yoga is accessible to all regardless of age or ability, there is no special kit or equipment required to take part, although having access to water is recommended.
Laughter Yoga is a focus on the breath, with a few stretches and mindfulness alongside a lot of laughter exercises.
The benefits of attending Laughter Yoga are many but they include the following:
1. It is a stress buster – Laughter reduces the amount of the stress hormones Cortisol and Epinephrine, which allows your blood vessels to relax and open up and lower blood pressure. Long term release of Cortisol can lead to many life limiting conditions such as, depression, anxiety, and heart disease.
2. It boosts your immune system – Studies have shown that laughter plays a role in boosting the production of the specific white blood cells that help to keep viruses and bacteria at bay.
3. It is great exercise – You can definitely count laughter as a cardio workout, burning the same number of calories as walking, plus it lowers bad cholesterol and raises good cholesterol.
4. It helps you breathe better- A 2009 study found laughter can increase oxygen consumption, your respiratory and heart rate in the same way a workout at the gym does.
5. It can reduce pain – A 2011 study found that social laughter reduces the need for analgesics this is due to the levels of endorphins that are released during laughter.
I look forward to laughing with you soon.
