What a business coach is?

A business coach is there to keep you focussed on the end result and remind you why it is important. They will motivate you to keep your commitments. They will act as a sounding board and when needed ask you to look in the mirror highlighting your business or personal strengths and weaknesses, or perhaps simply the blind spots. Coaching puts more focus on the future and in a business context fostering individual performance. Two important areas that stand out for me are Creating owner accountability and helping the business owner build actionable plans.

A business coach will advise individual leaders on business matters. A coach will tackle difficult issues at work and home and will strive to ask the right questions. I believe it’s essential to assist and guide the business owner in running a business by helping them clarify the vision of their business and how it fits with their business from where it is now to where the business owner wants it to be.

Why use a business coach?

Coaching and mentoring can sometimes be confused since both roles are about offering years of experience to a situation or relationship. The biggest difference is that a mentor focusses on advising whilst a coach will assist the owner in goal planning and keep them accountable, so they achieve success.

Ultimately the business owner determines the speed and passion in which the goals are met. A coach will help link the business owners personal dreams, goals and plan for themselves, which makes achieving the business goal more desirable, even exciting.

A business coach will help plan, prioritise what goals and strategies are needed to help progress the business closer to its goal. A coach will meet with the business owner regularly, either weekly or monthly, to keep them on track to the commitments made during the past coaching session.

Coaches often have years of experience to benefit the owners thinking. A coach will help the business owner figure out what their goals are, create  a road map to reach them. This perspective on the company can help owners see which items are just tasks and longer-term objectives. A coach will track goals, often creating KPI’s that makes the journey to reaching them very transparent.

The coach is there to keep track and measure progress that someone might avoid recording if they are on their own. When the journey is transparent it makes the person that is in charge of reaching them very accountable. Whatever the challenges, obstacles, plateau’s, no time for yourself, no time for strategic thinking. A business coach is likely to have seen it all.

When to hire a business coach.

If you feel as the business owner that you are going it alone, stagnating, lacking the accountability to make things happen, procrastinating, working hard at the expense of family time, not paying yourself properly and perhaps the people around you aren’t focused enough on results. Now is the time to match yourself with the right business coach for you and through the collaboration get things on track.
